Blocks keep appearing after I've cleared them

I'm trying to clear out blocks in a large section. There are some areas where blocks keep coming back. Usually in a line or single blocks. This has happened multiple times. I'll clear them and then they come back. Please fix! This is using up my pickaxes and costing me time.
