I cant play minecraft cross platform using live as well as worlds vanishing

I have been attempting to multiplay using live but either my friend cant recieve the invite or i cant join their world or vice versa. My survival worlds have been randomly disappearing as well as my creative worlds, I put some work into one of them and am planning on recording a world for youtube.
