controller gamepad doesnt work

LG v20 android 7.0 phone
Gamepad Gamesir g4s. old ipega gamepad

something about this version wont let gamepad buttons or look stick work properly. cant bind or remap. old version 0.16 of mcpe that i sideloaded for testing worked perfectly.

I have uninstalled several times. redownloaded and installed. cleared cache and data from app store and rebooted device several times. not sure what else to try
