Chunks missing from my world

When i opened a world of mine, i found that huge deep holes (chunks) were missing from the ground. The holes reached from the top of the stone/grass to the bedrock. One of my taller towers was even cut in half. i've tried searching but i couldn't find any solutions to this problem anywhere and i don't know what to do.
