mcpe 1.0.2.1 crashes on startup on android 4.0.3

Won't start at all - black screen then back to home screen. Tried with and without network, tried restarting tablet, reinstalling app, no dice. Previous version on play store had same problem . No working version since before 1.0.x.

Haven't seen exact same problem in tyour bug tracking system, but then Jira searches are very flaky.
