I am able to fly/jump into cobblestone

When I jump up while on the edge of a village well, I end up in the cobblestone. The view, however, is different from being suffocated in the cobblestone via pistons. I can also fly up from the bottom of the well and the same happens. Oh, if it helps, there were various layers of snow on top.
