cant plant melons. no wheat seeds

I built the reactor and it gave me melon seeds along with sugar cane and cactus. planted cane and cactus but not melons. throughout the game i have not found wheat or melons anywhere. doing ok with sugar. seen a youtube video on how to plant melons but it just wont work
