While playing my world it seems to break blocks, but it is not...

While playing in my world, my character was breaking blocks in creative mode, but when I switch to survival mode, it seems to break blocks, but it is not actually broken. When I opened a 2-block hole and got into it, I started to die. I opened a new world, but it didn't work. I logged out of my account and logged in but it still didn't work
