Allays not going through nether portal

I built a nether portal inside the allays cell.

I gave them the item to hold (all 8 of them holding the same item), and I held the same item while going through the portal, it didn't work. 

I lead them, but when I went through the lead broke and non of them teleported.

I restarted the app, it didn't fix the problem. Is this a known bug or is it because I don't know how to teleport them?
