Minecraft LAN Multiplayer Character creator skins not showing

Me and my cousin got into local multiplayer in the nintendo switch. We made our skins in the character creator tab and got into a game. When we did it only showed default skins, and randomizes to another default classic skin. I am able to see my character created skin on my side, but on my cousin's side she sees only one of the default classic skins, and same on my side I see her as a default skin. I'm not sure if this is an issue with LAN multiplayer in general but i'd like to know if there's a fix for it, as it seems like a waste to customize your skin in-game with mine coins.
