Items dropped through end portal allegedly disappear on some seeds

Drop any item into the nest portal

Enter the nest portal to return to world spawn

Go 32,500 blocks up
/tp @s -14 32500 20

Expected Behavior: Items and xp dropped in the nest portal appear near 0, 0 on the overworld surface.

Observed Behavior: Items and xp dropped in the nest portal appear at -14, 32766, 20; and are affected by natural despawning before reaching the ground.

Test Confidence: I generated the world three times and the behavior was always the same. I got another player on the world with me to drop the items through and observe them appear on the overworld side, always at the coordinates indicated.

 

Sob story: Killed the Ender dragon twice; both times, the eggs fell into the portal after the first punch and were nowhere to be found on the overworld side. Now my 100+ hours survival world doesn't have a dragon egg to show off.
