Attempting to minimize the game while signing-in and reopening it results in game not loading correct game icon and fails to load proper assets for panorama
I was playing with bug MCPE-174398 (aka. MCPE-186361) without crashing the game, and discovered this issue. This issue results in game not showing proper logo, percentage text while loading and the panorama was unloaded / replaced with different asset / overlay (until a world was loaded).
Reason for it being an exploit: This bug can be exploited to extract decrypted Marketplace content from the game logo that was replaced with, by coping the content from the base game, to Minecraft Preview and have the same Microsoft Account signed-in. Although derivative creators can then use this exploit to add features after stretching the skins / pictures back, bad actors can also use this feature as an offense to Marketplace creators and even IP holders. (I've performed there for Halo Mash-up Pack, see Halo-mash-up-mob-skin-being-shown-as-game-logo1.png and Halo-mash-up-mob-skin-being-shown-as-game-logo2.png)
Steps to reproduce:
- With Minecraft Preview open and Microsoft account signed out, click Sign-in
- With the XBOX sign-in popup open, return to home screen by minimizing Minecraft (not closing it!)
- (Optional) Rotate to portrait while on home screen
- Reopen Minecraft
- Cancel signing-in to Microsoft Account by tapping Cancel
- If done too late, try minimizing and reopening the game again
Video of me reproducing the issue can be found here
Expected result: the game loading screen loads as expected, with panorama loading properly
Actual result: After step 5, Pictures of Panoramas are unloaded (or even replaced with different assets / overlay) if you didn't enter any worlds. If step 6 was performed or you cancelled signing-in to Microsoft Account early enough, Weird pictures replaced Minecraft logo and the percentage text (but not the loading orb), these in this report are actually pictures of in-game assets, or otherwise the entire logo and / or percentage texts were removed. Minimizing and reopening again won't solve the issue but you can see the issue more clearly. Pictures below are some examples so the result may vary.
Workaround: Closing and reopening the game works around / solves the issue. And if you want the base game assets, there's an easier and more legitimate way to get it
Note: This is an exploit of MCPE-174398 (MCPE-186361) so like them, this bug can only be reproduced on iPhone and cannot be reproduced on iPad.
