Minecraft log in only works on virtual machine on my PC

Can't log in to Minecraft for windows. Error code 'Cauldron' every time I try to log in on the minecraft application. I am logged in to the minecraft launcher.

 

I have logged in/out of minecraft launcher, microsoft store, xbox store.

I have installed/uninstalled minecraft launcher, microsoft store, xbox store.

 

I create a virtual machine running windows 10, and installed minecraft. Here, I COULD log in to the minecraft game.

I feel as though minecraft has wrong log in details cached for my microsoft account somewhere, since it automatically logs me in and I can't actually specify my email/password anywhere. I believe it may be related to this, since I changed my microsoft password within the last week,
