Can't place end rod on a ceiling corner

When I try to place an end rod on a ceiling corner (between the ceiling and the walls). It just doesn't happen. Check the screenshot. I tapped the diamond block and the rod placed on the iron block on the side. It doesn't happen when I try to place it in a ground corner.
