I can't open my inventory or select things in my hotbar without trying multiple times

Every time I have attempted to play since the new update and with the new controls, I have been unable to select things in my hotbar and open my inventory. This quite literally makes gameplay impossible. The new controls have brought on so many new bugs and this appears to just be another one that hinders gameplay.
