Weapon destroyed in creeper explosion

Twice now creepers blow up near me and my enchanted diamond weapon is deleted.  One time when I died I recovered all of my inventory shortly thereafter and the weapon was gone.  The second time I did not die, and my undamaged enchanted diamond weapon was just deleted out of my quickbar and from the game.
