Game crashes when player gets too close to the end portal

I am able to create the end portal without crashing the game with fancy graphics, at a distance, but if I get close to the end portal my game crashes and and when I get back on the world the endportal completely resets even if I wait over 30 seconds before putting the last eye of ender in the portal.
