Torch has 1 missing layer unlike other torches

Minecraft has 4 torches. Torch, Underwater Torch, Redstone Torch, Soul Torch. Recently while building i discovered the default torch has a missing layer of pixels in its cubic geometry. I remember the normal torch had the same cubic geo as all other torches but its been broken? I dont know anything more.
