Game freezes for 5 to 10 seconds when exiting a world or server

When exiting a world or server, Minecraft freezes for approximately 5 to 10 seconds. This error is also on the other platforms, it's just that on the other platforms it is almost instantaneous. If you try to force close the game, you get a crash error and changes to servers/worlds may not be saved.
