Cannot Play With Friends

bought a new copy of minecraft  for the nintendo switch, updated, made an account; can't play with friends. 

I am able to play by myself or go into the public servers, but I can not play with my friends. my friends can't come to my worlds, or vise versa. the game tries to connect, I can see my friends worlds and they can see mine, but when we try to connect I get ab rown screen with the notification "cannot connect to this world" and that is it. we tried literally everything, I ended up mailing the helpdesk and they send me here to let you guys know. my friends and I have been checking on the game the last month and it still doesn't work
