Cannot control tamed Donkey when riding

I can place a saddle on a tamed donkey and ride it, but cannot control its direction when I ride it. Its animation stutters and looks 'glitchy'. Does not happen with horse. This is on a Realms server in survival mode. Phone is iPhone 6s (not an option in picklist)
