"X" (clear) on search bar does not forget previous search

Clicking the "x" in the search bar appears to clear the search, but when I begin typing another search the previous one returns.
*Edit: If I simply begin typing with the UI open, this bug does not occur. However, if I click on the search bar to ensure it's active before I begin typing, as habit dictates I must, this happens every single time.
