The 'x' on the search bar in creative menu brings back past search

When in Creative mode, the 'x' in the search bar doesn't work in a specific way. If you press the 'x' and then click on the search bar to type again, the past search you wrote appears again. But if you just keep typing after pressing the x without pressing anything else, it works perfectly fine. Why is this an issue? It is very specific and annoying, and even if I "just keep typing after pressing it" it is still very tedious and would still happen to me a lot.
