Mobs take fall damage before even touching the ground

I don't know the best way to describe it, but yeah. I've been trying to make one of those things that makes sculk spread automatically via fall damage to ravagers, but they die before touching the ground. I've tested it with other mobs and other blocks to land on and they all seem to be affected.
