Dark oak tree growth breaks bedrock
A dark oak tree that grows from 4 saplings can replace bedrock blocks located 7 blocks above and to the east or south of the saplings. I believe this is because of an error in the test for growth obstruction, because blocks located 8 or more above, or adjacent to the north or west of the saplings, prevent the tree from growing.
This bug is being exploited to break bedrock, and also to obtain bedrock in survival mode. See this YouTube video.
A test world that makes it easy to repro this issue is attached.
Steps to reproduce:
- Download the attached world "Dark oak breaks bedrock.mcworld" and open it.
- Press the "Prepare test" button to place bedrock and dark oak saplings
- Hit the saplings with bone meal until a tree grows. Alternatively, wait for a tree to grow.
- Press the "Remove tree" button to replace the tree and its leaves with air. Observe the bedrock layer's shape.
Note: There's a slight possibility that no leaves will generate where a bedrock block is, so the bedrock layer is unchanged. Simply repeat the steps.
Expected results:
The tree either doesn't grow at all, or grows without replacing the bedrock blocks with leaves.
Observed results:
One or more of the bedrock blocks are replaced with dark oak leaves, which are subsequently replaced with air when you push the button.
