Got blown up, returned to the scene, some items hovered but wouldn't collect, so lost coal and logs

I got blown up by a creeper, and when I went back to collect my stuff, I got verything except apples, coal, and logs were left hovering when I walked through them. I stopped and waited and eventually the apples went to my inventory, but the coal and logs didn't, disappearing after the time ran out.
