Tamed cat walked into cactus and died

When immediately starting the game I was able to tame a cat and decided to take it exploring. It seemed to pathfind into a cactus while I was in the desert and continued to prick until death. It could be because my simulation distance is lower, but it didn't seem to regard the cactus as something to avoid.
