Trying to type on signs doesn't work sometimes

What I expected to happen was...:
typing in chat and on signs

What actually happened was...:

i try to type on a sign it works but when i try again it doesnt work but for some reason doing the / command fixes it then it just breaks again

Steps to Reproduce:
1. place a sign type in it
2. ... place another and it shouldnt work, not even the escape key doesn't work

Summary

the problem is that i cant type in signs or chat 

it also disables the escape key

it does fix if i press /

but it will break again and its annoying
