Can't put text on more than one sign.

I have run into an issue where I am putting signs on treasure chests and I was only able to type text into the first sign I put down. When I put a second sign down on another chest, I was not able to type any text into the sign. I exited the game, got back in, and was again only able to put text into the first sign I placed.
