hasitem air won't work

When I execute "/testfor @s[hasitem=\{item=air}]" in chat it responds by saying "no target matched selector" even though my inventory is completely empty.

btw the command I deminstrated is correct, its just that your platform is making a / in the wrong place for some reason and I can't remove it
