Typing into a newly placed sign makes typing impossible in all future signs

The first Sign I place in any world after booting up Minecraft works as intended and I can type in it as normal. After I type anything into this one Sign, I can no longer use the keyboard when typing into newly placed signs. I can't even exit the text box with Escape, I have to use my gamepad. The game acts as if my keyboard isn't connected, even though it works just fine outside of the game (for example, the Windows key works fine).

Books and the Chat do not break future text boxes like a sign does. Reloading the world or going to a different one does not fix the issue. I have to type in a book or chat to fix the bug, at which point I can once again only type into a single new sign.

I am not using any add-ons.
