Problem with skins not being applied in Minecraft

When I try to apply my own skin image files in Minecraft, I get an error message as shown in this screenshot.
As far as I know, this problem has been going on since June.
I know that several people have already posted that they would like to see this problem fixed, but I too would like to see this problem fixed as soon as possible.
