Minecraft PE app on iPad (iOS 16.6) crashes when logged in to account after update 1.20.13

Immediately after the update 1.20.13, the app crashes when logged in (or in the process of logging in) to Minecraft account. Tried this using 2 different accounts and had the same problem. I am using a 9th generation iPad with current iOS 16.6. Tried reinstalling the app (with a hard reset before and after) but the problem continues. Minecraft PE 1.20.13 only works on this platform if I am logged out of my account. Unable to play on realms or with friends.
