Character Creator not working or loading.

After loading up minecraft, when I go into the character creator to edit a character, none of the shop items or owned items appear. When clicking on all of the different sections of the avatar, (e.g. eyes, hair, body, top, bottom, footwear, etc.) the pages appear blank instead of displaying the item options. What is shown the images is true for all of the different sections of the character creator, showing up either blank or showing only the default character pieces.
