Weeks-long lag issue somehow related to skin?

Friend’s game has been lagging for several weeks. When his game lags we get a notification that “(his username) has edited their character appearance” even though he hasn’t changed his skin in months. I believe this started happening around the new update, but may have gone on for longer, I don’t remember. Just know its been a while that this is happening. He even changed his skin back to the default just a few moments ago, closed app, reset numerous times. Same issue. Anyone have an idea?
