Villagers have trouble path finding on top of pitcher pods

After planting pitcher pods beneath the villager it's path finding becomes broken and they rarely wander around planting seeds. Once in a while they do break loose from the issue and get a few more seeds in before breaking their path finding again. I believe it is due to the pitcher pod being a half block, after being planted it confuses the villagers a.i.
