SteelSeries XL Bluetooth Controller losing connection

SteelSeries XL Controller works ok for about one to two minutes, then the controller loses connection and the character continues on the last vector commanded before connection lost (sometimes into Lava and dies). Prior to 0.15.9 this happened once in a while (hour or two of play). There have been several changes: 1. Minecraft version changed from 0.15.7 to 0.15.9 2. iPad iOS changed from 9 to 10.0.2. 3. Replaced SteelSeries XL controller with a new controller, changed batteries three times. Still have problem losing Bluetooth connection.
