Automatically in player 2 when opening game

Almost every time I open minecraft it automatically puts me in player 2 mode and I am unable to select anything the only thing I can do is move up and down on the Home Screen I restart the game and i am usually still in player 2 sometimes it fixes it but most of the time it doesn't sometimes I restart my whole Xbox and it still persists and I have to sit there repeatedly restarting my game or Xbox until it finally works 

if I join a game through an Xbox invite by holding the home button I am able to join the game but I am unable to move and I see on the screen that I need to press the button to connect player 2 and this isn't an issue with an extra controller I only have one and there has never been a 2nd controller ever connected to this Xbox I don't even have the Xbox remote connected from my phone so I have no idea what else it could be as it only started happening after the most recent minecraft update
