The fence gates are burning

I was making an iron farm when i noticed that the fence gate i used to prevent lava from spreading out caught fire from the lava and burned up 

You can see how and what happens in the attached file 

I think it's some sort of bug but I'm not sure if it's a new feature of minecraft
