Cherry wood planks do not normally break with an axe

Procedure:

• select "Survival" mode;
• place a cherry wood plank;
• equip an axe;
• break the block.

When trying to break cherry wood planks with an axe, the block breaks at the same rate as when you don't have the axe equipped.
