Command suggestions show up if there's a space at the beginning

What happened:
I had a space in front of my command and the suggestions still showed. After typing the command with a space at the beginning it doesn't execute, just shows in chat as " /tp ~ ~2 ~" for example.
What I expected to happen:
Either the command suggestions not appearing or minecraft removing the spaces.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Enter 1 or more spaces in chat
2. Press "/" and have the command suggestions show
