Fishing does not seem to work

For some odd reason, fishing hasn't seemed to have been working for the past 2 updates. I try to fish and when the tip starts to sink down, indicating I've caught something, I press ZL to get the fish, and nothing. It catches nothing, not even an item or any kind of fish. Not entirely sure is this only happening on Switch, but its been an issue I've had for a while.
