Adding numbers after a command no longer works

In creative I have been using the /fill command to create walls of concrete for years.  When I used to fill out the command and put a number after it, it would change the color based on the number.  I have noticed that the command no longer works when adding a number.  I tested this out on planks and ladders and other things that need a number to adjust, and none of the commands work.
