Player nametags dont show through blocks in new update

In the new update player nametags don't show through full blocks on pc, it however does on xbox. my friend hosts the minecraft world on his xbox and i join him through pc but for some reason in this new update i cant see his tag through full blocks but he can see mine. stuff like glass i can see his tag through but most other full blocks like wood plank i cant. as you can see in the pictures glass you can see his name but the moment i go behind a block it disappears. do keep in mind on his end they can see my tag through blocks on xbox.
