Cannot link Microsoft account to PS4 version (running on PS5)

I am trying to login to my Microsoft account on the PS4 version of Minecraft to connect with friends on Multiplayer. When I try to login I see the error 'Failed to Login: Looks like the MS Account you are trying to use is already connected to another account on "Playstation Network"' I have verified that the only account that I have linked to MS is the one that I used to purchase the game so I am not sure how I can resolve this.
