spawned me as new player, lost all levels and items

Loaded into my world and my inventory was empty and was at the beginning spawn point. The last time I had played this world I did not die, was at level 17, had several items, and had a bed where my spawn point was set. I saved and quit the game as normal (no death message, no bed destroyed) and the next time I join my world NOTHING! I traveled back to my last location to find none of my items on the ground and my bed was completely intact!
