PC and Xbox cross platform bedrock unable to connect .

Says bedrock edition is cross platform with all other bedrock editions, and my friend has the Minecraft Xbox edition and we are not able to connect even though I am on bedrock on my PC. We allowed in settings to play cross platform through Microsoft and the game. Not sure what else to do.
