Friends game freezes when I try to join

I am on pc and my friend is on ps4. Whenever I try to join him his game freezes and an error message never shows up. Sometimes I am successful in joining, but just a minute or so later it freezes. It worked fine for about a week after creating the world, but for the past few days all of a sudden it is messed up.
