failed to sycn world data

I updated today, but the update froze over and over.  After hours of rebooting, power cycling and disconnecting the internet the only option I had left was to uninstall/reinstall.  To my horror my world won't sync and I fear I've lost everything.  I've got years spent in my world.  Please help.
