Can't paste into chat without manually clicking the text box first

In bedrock, when you open chat, you can type any key to begin typing, but if you paste, nothing happens.

How to reproduce
1. Copy some text
2. Open chat
3. Ctrl+V

Expected result
Text gets pasted into chat

Observed result
Nothing happens until you type something else, or click on the chatbox
